Bedford Academy

Join Marilyn at the Alleycatz, 2409 Yonge, 2.5 blocks north of Eglinton. The York Jazz Ensemble is one of Toronto's top nine-piece with a terrific horn section and singer. The music is mostly jazz, blues, rock, ballads and big band standards. Alleycatz has a good-sized dance floor so just listen to the music or ask someone to get up and dance. They are well known for the good food and extensive menu. Underground parking is available half a block south on Broadway. Please reserve ahead of time as we have to book a table. Are you excited about reading? Do you like to discuss the books you have read? Join Joan and Dorothy for a book club meeting at Dorothy's home, to discuss the month's chosen book. If you wish, bring a list of titles/ authors of books that you have enjoyed or want to read in the future. For this Book club meeting, please read the book Nemesis by Philip Roth. Toronto Public Library has many copies of this book. Members only for this event and reserve early as number of participants is limited. Cost: $5 UKC levy. Old Spaghetti Factory

Join Chris at the Old Spaghetti Factory, a top dining experience in Toronto for decades, housed in a charming historical building that was a blacksmith's shop at the turn of the century. Just one block east of the old Hummingbird/ Sony Center. Mingling starts at 6 pm in the bar, dinner at 7 pm. Several popular Italian specialties are offered with prices ranging from approx. $13 to $20. All meals include soup or salad, fresh bread with plain or garlic butter, finished off with spumoni ice cream, tea, or coffee. Individual billing; tax and gratuity not included. Plus UKC levy. Climax Jazz Band
Laird south of Eglinton
Join Marilyn at the Leaside Pub, 190 Laird Drive. This is three blocks south of Eglinton at the northwest corner of McCrae. (Bus-stop is right outside the pub.) The Climax Jazz Band plays traditional New Orleans jazz and is a legend in Toronto. There is great pub food plus a $10 steak special on Saturday afternoons. No cover charge to hear this wonderful band, only the $5 UKC Levy. There is only a small parking lot, but street parking is available plus a large shopping plaza a block down on the east side of Laird. We meet and mingle near the back in a reserved area before sitting down for excellent pub food like Shepherd's Pie, Fish & Chips, etc. Entrees: $9 - $16. Located directly accross from Roy Thompson Hall - just steps from St. Andrew subway. For GO train users it is a relaxing 10 minute walk from Union Station and parking is free at GO stations.
