Dress for the weather; bring water, snack, boots, hat, gloves, etc. Post hike we will lunch at a British style Pub in Bolton. About two hours walking with some challenging hills. Take Highway 50 North from Toronto to the Tim Horton's parking lot in downtown Bolton proper. Ignore all the other Tim’s and look for the small mall on your left just N of the intersection of King and Highway 50 which includes the TD bank. Are you excited about reading? Do you like to discuss the books you have read? Join Joan and Dorothy for a book club meeting at Dorothy's home, to discuss that month's chosen book. If you wish, bring a list of titles/authors, or books that you have enjoyed or want to read in the future. Research has shown that both reading and socializing play an important role in maintaining thinking skills and good mental health. For this book club meeting, please read beforehand, the book, Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese. The Toronto Public Library has over 70 copies of this book but there are quite a few holds, so reserve this book early. There are also e-copies available through TPL. Dorothy's address will be given when members register for this event. You must be a member to attend this event. Some free parking available. TTC bus service nearby. $5 UKC levy collected. LIVE BAND SWING/JAZZ & DANCING at ALLEYCATZ
Yonge/Eglinton
Join Marilyn at the Alleycatz (www.alleycatz.ca), 2409 Yonge, two blocks north of Eglinton, and enjoy good music with good company, good food and a good selection of drinks. The music will be played by the York Jazz Ensemble, one of Toronto's top nine-piece Swing and Jazz bands starring singer George Westerholm. It will be mostly big band standards: jazz, blues, rock and ballads. Just listen to the music or ask someone to join you on the fair sized dance floor. This event is billed by the York Jazz Ensemble as a Halloween show. In addition to the usual $5 levy, there’s a cover charge of $10. Since the Seven44 was forced to close, the band has found this new venue and, with our support, we hope to help it become established there for our own future enjoyment. Reasonably priced parking is available at the Edison Centre on Broadway Ave off the east side of Yonge, just below the Alleycatz. GOLFING FUN DAY

Join Dorothy and Joan at Scarlett Woods (Jane/Eglinton) executive golf course for 18 holes of golf. You don’t have to be an expert. All welcome! Bring your single friends! We will be playing ‘BEST DRIVE’, meaning that for the drive only, on holes greater than 150 yards; players pick up their balls and place them in line with the ball of the player who has the best drive. There will be prizes for ‘CLOSEST TO THE HOLE’ and ‘LONGEST DRIVE’ at designated holes. There is a maximum of one prize per golfer. Cost: green fees of $30 for seniors and $45 for adults, plus $5 UKC levy. Rentals available: clubs $20, pull cart $5 and power carts $30 for seniors, $32 for adults. Power carts can be shared. Everyone is welcome and since NO reservations are needed, just show up; UKC levy of $5 will apply. This will be the ’19th hole’ for many of the afternoongolfers, with no levy payable. The WILD GOOSE Bar & Grill is located at 5395 Eglinton Ave. W, just west of Renforth Drive. From ScarlettWoods golf course, go west on Eglinton and about 10 minutes later, just after passing the lights at Renforth, you will see the restaurant in the plaza on the south (left side). WALK ALONG HUMBER RIVER

Join Dorothy and Joan for a brisk walk along the Humber River Trail from James Gardens to the Old Mill and then to 2401 Bloor Street West, for lunch at Dark Horse restaurant. This walk is divided into two segments – the first starts at James Gardens and the second starts at the Old Mill subway station. For the James Gardens start, meet at 10:30 near the rear of the free parking lot where the walking path commences. For those starting at the Old Mill, meet a short walk from the Old Mill subway station, just past the Old Mill Inn & over the bridge of the Humber River where there is a free parking lot. Please be there by 11:45. Please note that the free parking lot is on the east side of the bridge, not directly across from the Old Mill Inn. Wear appropriate walking shoes; bring water and dress appropriately for the weather. A $5.00 UKC levy applies. If planning to do this walk, please book with either Joan or Dorothy by Sat Nov 4. Join UK Connexion member, nuclear physicist Nick, for mingling, a pot-luck supper and a special screen presentation, with videos and sound, on the evolution of star gazing with its associated mystic and voodoo phenomena, into present day astronomy, then into the latest in space exploration. LOCATION: "partway" to space in Bruce's luxurious penthouse party room on the Esplanade overlooking Toronto Harbour. What a view! This is a Pot Luck party, so bring what you would like to eat and share. BYOB. Pop, tea, coffee will be provided. Nick has a couple of packs of what the astronauts eat for dessert aboard the International Space Station (ISS); to be shared out, of course. Book early because Nick’s previous presentations were filled to capacity within days! And, if your registration number is past #25, you may be asked to bring a portable chair!
