Join Marilyn at Smokeshow (formerly The Rose on Mount Pleasant), 744 Mount Pleasant Road. Come and listen to the York Jazz Ensemble one of the top 9-piece bands playing in Toronto. They have an amazing large horn section and a wonderful new singer Cheryl Lyn Backman who has a beautiful bluesy voice. The Band plays jazz, blues, rock, ballads and some of the old big band standards. This new venue has BBQ food and a good sized dance floor so lots of room to dance. This quality band has a $10 cover charge, plus of course our $5 UKC levy. From Eglinton subway station take the 56 bus or any bus going east and get off at Rawlinson and walk west one block to Mt. Pleasant, then south on Mt. Pleasant. Alternatively take the 74 bus from St.Clair subway station and get off at Soudan Avenue and then walk less than a block north. Join Lynda for the 2020 opera season from the Metropolitan Opera in NYC on the big screen. We will watch Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini. It’s the tragic love story of a Japanese geisha and a U.S. navy captain. Buy your ticket in person or order at www.cineplex.com. Price: $28 for seniors, $29 regular. Join Rosemary for great New Orleans jazz played by The Happy Pals, a top Toronto Dixieland jazz band. The band doesn't start until 4.30 but it's more likely we can sit together if we're there by 4. There's no cover charge, just the UKC levy. At 7 pm we plan to walk across the street to The Red Lounge, 444 Spadina, which serves good, reasonably priced, western and Asian food. Kim invites all you ballroom dancers to The Westway Dance Club, 291 Evans Ave (Kipling) in Etobicoke for their weekly Tea Dance. Everyone gets dressed up and dances the day away till 3.30 pm. As it's close to St. Valentine's Day, many will be dressed in red. Tea, coffee, bagels, cake and cookies are served to "keep us on our toes". They also have two sets of line dancing and a 50/50 draw. Please join Marilyn at the Leaside Pub, 190 Laird Drive. The Pub is three blocks south of Eglinton at the north west corner of McCrae. (Bus stop right outside the Pub.) The Climax plays traditional New Orleans style jazz and is a legend in Toronto and much of the USA. There is great pub food plus a $10 steak special on Saturdays. No cover charge to hear this Band, only the $5 UKC Levy. There is only a small parking lot but street parking is available. This is a very busy Pub and we are limited to 12 people to be in the main room where the Band plays. Reservations are essential, first come gets a seat.
