CLIMAX JAZZ BAND - THE LEASIDE PUB

Join Marilyn at the Leaside Pub, 190 Laird Drive. This is three blocks south of Eglinton at the north west corner of McCrae. (Bus stop right outside the Pub.) The Climax Jazz Band plays traditional New Orleans style jazz and i s a legend in Toronto. There is great pub food plus a $10 steak special on Saturday afternoons. No cover charge to hear this great band, only the $5 UKC levy. There is only a small parking lot, but street parking is available. GOLFING FUN DAY

Join Dorothy and Joan at Scarlett Woods Executive Golf Course for 18 holes of golf. You don’t have to be an expert. All welcome! Bring your single friends! If needed, we will be playing ‘BEST DRIVE,’ meaning that for the drive only, on holes greater than 150 yards, players who are beginners, pick up their balls and place them in line with the ball of the player who has the best drive. There will be prizes for ‘CLOSEST TO THE HOLE’ and ‘LONGEST DRIVE.’ There is a maximum of one prize per golfer. Cost: green fees of $30.50 for seniors and $43.50 for adults, plus $5 UKC levy. Rentals available: clubs $20, pull cart $7 and power carts $30 for seniors, $32 for adults. Power carts can be shared by two people. Prices subject to change. Everyone is welcome. UKC levy of $5. This will be the ‘19th hole’ for many of the afternoon golfers with no levy payable. The WILD GOOSE Bar & Grill is located at 5395 Eglinton Ave. W, just west of Renforth Drive. From Scarlett Woods golf course, go west on Eglinton and about 10 minutes later, just after passing the lights at Renforth, you will see the restaurant in the plaza on the south (left side). Hopefully it will be a lovely sunny day, so we can enjoy dinner on the large patio. Reservations required by 8 pm the evening before. The band doesn't start until 4:30 pm but it's more likely we can sit together if we're there by 4. There's no cover charge, just the UKC levy. At 7 pm we plan to walk across the street to The Red Lounge, 444 Spadina, which serves good, reasonably priced, western and Asian food. Enjoy the play "Unnecessary Farce" by Paul Slade - adjoining motel rooms, incompetent cops and a Highland hit-man result in raucous laughter in this rollicking comedy. Meet Mary earlier at 12:30 pm at the Bread & Roses Bakery Cafe or join her in the lobby by 1:30 pm to buy your tickets at the box office (mention that you are with the UK Connexion group) as PLAY STARTS AT 2 pm sharp and seating is on first come, first served basis ($24/seniors $20). UKC $5 levy will apply. Theatre location: 2190E Bloor S t W (downstairs on north side across from No Frills) just east of Runnymede subway. Bread & Roses Bakery Cafe is just a short walk west on the same side at 2232 Bloor St W to meet up at 12:30 pm for hot drinks and homemade snacks/food before. HIKE IN PALGRAVE CONSERVATION AREA
Palgrave Wildlife Conservation
Join Arnold and Mary for a spring hike to Palgrave Wildlife Conservation area. We will do a 2-hour hike (or less) through the forest on suitable trails. If the snow/ice has all gone we should be able to do the interesting perimeter hike which is one of the more challenging trails. Dress in suitable clothing for the weather and wear hiking boots. Bring water and a snack. Afterwards we will head to the Toby Jug Pub in Bolton to enjoy so me refreshments. We will meet at the Tim Horton’s in the small plaza with a TD bank at the intersection of Hwy 50 and King St. in downtown Bolton. The plaza is on the west side and north of King St. Please note that there are several Tim Horton’s in Bolton. Call Arnold at 416-222-3551 no later than Sat May 11 to register. Join Marilyn at the Alleycatz, 2409 Yonge St. 2.5 blocks north of Eglinton on the east side. Come and listen to the York Jazz Ensemble one of the top 9-piece bands playing in Toronto. They have an amazing large horn section and a wonderful new singer Cheryl Lyn Backman who has a beautiful bluesy voice. The Band plays jazz, blues, rock, ballads and some of the old big band standards. Alleycatz has a good sized dance floor so lots of room to dance. This quality band has a $10 cover charge, plus of course our $5 UK Connexion levy but no need to pay levy if you attended the earlier event. Pleasant, then south on Mt. Pleasant, no more than 5 minutes, or alternatively take the 74 bus from St. Clair station (to Donlands) and get off at Soudan Ave then walk north less than a block.
